Karen Lloyd

Karen Lloyd is a candidate for the State Board of Education for District 8. A lifelong resident of Ohio, she was born and raised in the Ohio Valley. Karen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Married to her husband Ron for 33 years, Karen is also a mother to two grown daughters and a wonderful son-in-law. The greatest joy in her life is her two-year-old grandson, who is both loving and delightful. Karen, a retired teacher with 36 years of experience in public elementary education, decided to retire on July 1, 2024, to help care for her grandson, who was born with a rare condition.

EXPERIENCE

Karen’s deep passion for education is rooted in her family background, as her father was a public school teacher and principal. Throughout her career, Karen was dedicated to collaborating with other teachers to improve their practice. She served on the Local Professional Development Committee for 26 years and mentored numerous colleagues. Her involvement with the Ohio Education Association exposed her to various educational issues, which she is eager to address as a member of the State Board of Education.

RECRUITING TEACHERS

Karen believes that attracting and retaining quality teachers is crucial for the success of Ohio’s public schools. She is committed to bringing this issue to the forefront and working with all members of the SBOE to tackle it effectively. Karen is enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve all communities in Region 8 and looks forward to the challenges ahead. Voters are encouraged to support Karen Lloyd for State Board of Education on November 5.
